Applications for an award-winning apprenticeship programme are at an all time high, according to data from SP Electricity North West.
The power network operator for the region has revealed it recently closed its application window early as submissions surpassed 2,200 for 31 roles.
Various roles were up for grabs throughout the business across areas such as cyber security, network design, operations and more.
The record number of applications received represents a 50 per cent increase compared to 2025.
“Our apprenticeship programme really has gone from strength to strength and we’ve worked incredibly hard to enhance the offerings we can provide,” said Chris Havard, who oversees SP Electricity North West’s apprenticeship programme.
“We’ve made a conscious effort to showcase the diverse roles we have an offer and I think that has reflected in the huge increase in applications and also the calibre of candidates.
“It’s an ideal time to be joining the industry, the reliance for electricity is only increasing as more people adopt technologies such as electric vehicles and heat pumps.
“Given this and the ambitious targets set by government and local authorities, the opportunities are endless and I’m really looking forward to interviewing later in the year.”
Last year, in a first for the company, SP Electricity North West achieved the highly coveted We Invest in Apprentices, gold standard accreditation for its ongoing commitment to developing its next generation of talent.
More than 120 apprentices currently sit within the company as it continues to lay the foundations for the region’s future.
The firm is well underway with its £2bn business plan which will see growth across its network and work is now starting for its next business plan which will operate from 2028-2033.
Apprentices will play a huge part in building the network of the future and to mark National Apprenticeship Week, SP Electricity North West is re-launching its apprenticeship register your interest form.
The form will ensure potential candidates receive early access and information to roles in the future, once they are made live.
