The North West’s electricity network has been ranked as one of the best in the country for the second year running by energy regulator, Ofgem.

Electricity North West, which operates the overhead lines and underground cables that power homes and businesses in the region, was ranked top among the six companies that own the country’s 14 power networks.

Each year Ofgem ranks the networks to show areas of good and poor performance. Electricity North West is the only network operator to have achieved green ratings across the board in Ofgem’s report released today.

This is the second year in a row that Electricity North West has been rated green across all metrics in Ofgem’s annual report. The six key metrics are: Reliability and availability, connections, social obligations, customer service, environment and safety.

Electricity North West’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Emery, said: “We’re working hard for the region to provide a secure and reliable supply of electricity and investing for a zero-carbon future while also keeping bills down.

“We invest half a million pounds a day in the North West, upgrading the network, responding to storms and fixing faults, and investing in innovation to keep costs down while also getting the network ready for electric cars and an expected surge in electricity usage.”

In its annual report, Ofgem states that Electricity North West “has exceeded all reliability targets... as well as the targets for average time to quote and time to connect”.

Electricity North West has also reported its highest ever levels of customer satisfaction, exceeding the industry-wide target of 82%, scoring 85% satisfaction.

The report also shows real rates of returns for Electricity North West in line with Ofgem’s target of around 6%.
