Tanhouse Morris Dancers, based at the Tanhouse Community Centre, won the funding from network operator, as part of Electricity North West’s latest community initiative.
The initiative looked to reward a local project that makes a difference in the local community. Tanhouse Morris Dancers’ winning entry explained how the group is run entirely by volunteers and gives local people the opportunity to dance, regardless of their background or income.
Michelle Lewis, head of communications and stakeholder engagement for Electricity North West said: "As the region’s power network, we power all the homes, businesses and community groups in Lancashire and throughout the North West. While we provide the electricity, community groups really bring the spark, and we wanted to recognise and reward those groups for powering their local area within our region.
“Tanhouse Morris Dancers are a well deserved winner after their entry showcased how much of a community spirit they have and how much they rely on their local community to support their members and provide them with the opportunity to dance.”
Angela Eadie, dance trainer at Tanhouse Morris Dancers said: “We’re thrilled to be chosen as the winner of Electricity North West’s competition. We work hard together to raise much needed funds to help support local dancers from our community and the money will go towards making sure this will continue.”
The giveaway was part of the Electricity North West’s latest awareness campaign, encouraging customers to call them in the event of a power cut. It’s never been easier to get in touch since the launch of the new free national power cut number, 105.
Electricity North West’s awareness campaign ‘We power the network that powers your day’ runs until the end of January 2017.
