Almost 200 customers on the Island will benefit from the £163,000 major engineering project to replace more than 600 metres of aging electricity cable with new and efficient underground cables.

Today (7th January) engineers from the region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, will start the essential three-month project.

Paul McGonigle, programme delivery manager for Electricity North West, said: “We’re committed to delivering the best service to our customers and keeping the lights on for people on Walney Island and across the North West.

“To ensure we do this we have to invest in the network and upgrade underground cables and overhead power lines which have aged and been in place for a long time.”

Engineers will keep any disruption to a minimum and there may be temporary traffic lights in place and planned power outages to allow the work to be carried out safely.
