SP Electricity North West is launching monthly flexibility tenders which will complement its existing long-term auctions.
As part of its Distribution System Operation (DSO), the monthly look-ahead, part of a new procurement window, will run alongside the bi-annual larger scale tenders.
The monthly tenders will expand what is offered and provide faster, more responsive opportunities for flexibility service providers to support network-balancing and the management of grid congestion across the North West network.
Paul George, SP Electricity North West’s DSO commercial lead, said: “This agile and market-friendly approach means we now offer both long term auctions and monthly opportunities.
“Both options allow us to better match procurement to real-time network needs while giving a wider set of providers the chance to participate and be rewarded for the value they deliver to the network.”
By utilising flexible services, customers and providers can earn money, working alongside SP Electricity North West.
Customers agree to adjust their generation or use of electricity at certain times as and when it is needed.
Utilising flexibility makes better use of the network by keeping costs down and potentially adding a quicker route to new connections.
The latest tender opportunities will cover a range of flexibility products including demand reduction, generation increase, and other network support services across defined network. Participation is welcome from aggregators, independent generators, storage operators, demand side response providers, and other qualified flexibility providers.
The first month ahead tender is now open and is for February 2026 delivery period.
